Interplay is a diptych that explores the effects of light and shadow through the arrangement of geometric parts. Each diamond-shaped unit is derived from transforming a planar rectangle into a volumetric structure by cutting and stretching the surface, just like the Japanese craft of kirigami. The honeycomb-like sculpture allows light to reflect on the surfaces as well as to pass through the openings to create areas of illumination and shadow. The relationship between day and night is reinforced through the interplay of form and void, light and shadow, echoing the contrasting mirrored and patinated surfaces of the stainless steel panels.
